All the details

This will be the long detailed post about my appointments on Thursday. Yes, I am a couple days late, but that's ok. If I don't do it now, it will never get done!

The babysitter came at 8:15am to watch Haley. LT and I headed off in the minivan(ha) o our appt. at Fairfax Hospital. We got there right on time, ten minutes till 9. We only waited a couple minutes and then the u/s tech called us into the room. It took a little longer because they were having computer issues. She had me take off my bottoms so she could check my cervix. That was the first thing she checked. Which of course it was nice and long and closed! 4.8cm to be exact. Then she goes to my belly and squirts on the warm gel. No matter how many times you have this done, it still feels weird. She starts right away with checking the amniotic fluid pocket around the twins. She says it loosk good. She then tells us that baby A is breech and baby B is transverse. She move on and then asks us eventually if we want to know the sex of the babies. "Yea, of course! That's why I am here!" She looks around for baby A and couldn't see anything, so does a quick scan of baby B and goes, "Baby B is a baby girl." My first thought is, ok, we have one more chance! Of course I am excited for a girl, but don't think I can handle two more girls! She goes back to taking measurments of baby A. It was like 10-15 minutes later, she says, "I think baby A is a boy." Then explains this picture she took and where the boy part was. I don't know how she saw it, but she did! She even double checked again at the end. That picture at the end showed more of a boy part than the first one. But she was good! By 9:45 we knew that we were having one of each! :)
She continued to check baby A(the boy) and then moved onto baby B (the girl). We got to hear the heartbeats of both of them. She even showed us that the girl was already beating up on the boy, by kicking him in the chest! It was pretty funny. We were in there until about 10:20. Then we had to wait for the doctor. He called us in a couple minutes later to go over everything. Again, telling me that they both looked great and my cervix looked great. I will go back in 4 weeks for another growth scan.

Here are the details of each twin.

Baby boy
--measured 19w3d
--heartbeat 143
--6.1cm of amniotic fluid around him
--weighs 10 ounces
--estimated fetal weight is 53rd percentile
--breech on my left side

Baby girl
--measured 19w1d
--heartbeat 141
--4.8cm of amniotic fluid around her
--weighs 10 ounces
--estimated fetal weight is 56th percentile
--transverse on my right side

LT and I leave the hospital and the phone starts ringing already! ha. It was Alyssa, but I had to call her back to make sure my parents were the first to know! The day continues with phone calls. Then Leslie calls saying she is in town and stopping over. Lisa and her mom were going to lunch, so we joined them. Poor Haley had a rough time towards the end with the babysitter and hadn't napped yet, but I dragged her out with me anyways!

Leslie came with me to Dr. Forrest's office to watch Haley. Let's just say a tired Haley wanted her mommy the whole time so she cried the whole time. My BP was 130 over 80 and I gained 9 pounds in the month. Didn't help that I just ate lunch! But I guess I was gaining weight and didn't need to go off my metformin! Dr. Forrest went over the info I brought him from my earlier u/s and said everything looked great! He said that if it continues that way then I shouldn't need bedrest! Which of course is good news. He then measured my fundal height and I am already measuring 27 weeks! Oh my. No wonder I feel exhausted all the time! And took the heartbeats by doppler. He had a med student in there so he was explaining everything. So I see him again in 4 weeks as well. Then after that appt. I see him every two weeks.

All in all everything is going well and looking well! Let's hope it stays that way! :)

Till next time..which I'm sure will be after I get back from Florida. My last vacation. :( I will hopefully be able to put up comparison pics of both pregnancies next time too!
